The socket determines which CPUs fit. AM5 is the current AMD platform, AM4 covers older Ryzen generations. Intel uses LGA1700 for 12th–14th Gen and LGA1851 for Core Ultra 200S. Always check the socket before buying.
ATX offers the most slots and connectors, Micro-ATX saves space with few limits, and Mini-ITX is the most compact option. Your case must support the chosen form factor.
The chipset determines connectivity, PCIe lanes and overclocking features. X870E and B850 are current AMD platforms, B860 is the Intel mainstream, and B550 covers AM4.
DDR5 is standard on AM5, LGA1851 and most LGA1700 boards; DDR4 remains relevant for budget and older builds. Never mix DDR4 and DDR5.
