What is Texas Hold'em?
Texas Hold'em is a community card poker game where each player receives two private cards (hole cards) and shares five community cards with all players. The goal is to make the best five-card hand using any combination of your hole cards and the community cards. It's the most widely played poker variant in both online and live settings.
Hand Rankings
From highest to lowest: Royal Flush (10-J-Q-K-A of same suit), Straight Flush (five consecutive cards of same suit), Four of a Kind, Full House (three of a kind plus a pair), Flush (any five cards of same suit), Straight (five consecutive cards), Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair, High Card. Memorize these rankings before playing.
The Blinds
Every hand starts with forced bets called blinds. The Small Blind posts half the minimum bet, and the Big Blind posts the full minimum bet. These rotate clockwise around the table each hand, ensuring every player contributes to the pot. The Big Blind also acts as the minimum raise amount.
Betting Rounds
Each hand has four betting rounds: Preflop (after receiving hole cards), Flop (after three community cards are dealt), Turn (after the fourth community card), and River (after the fifth and final community card). Players can Fold, Call, or Raise during each round.
Showdown
If two or more players remain after the final betting round, they reveal their hands in a showdown. The player with the best five-card hand wins the pot. If all players fold except one, that player wins without showing their hand.
Position Matters
Your position at the table relative to the dealer button is crucial. Late position (Button, Cutoff) is most advantageous because you act last and have more information about opponents' actions. Early position requires stronger hands to play profitably.
